I know someone who is always sick. She always has a cold, a cough or some pain. We start talking one day and soon, I find out why. Because when she’s sick, that’s the only time she receives a lot of and love and concern. When she’s well, she doesn’t receive attention and love and concern! She keeps getting sick because her subconscious mind tells her body to get sick.

This is what psychology calls the phenomenon of secondary gain. The secondary gain of getting sick was getting her attention and love from others.

And so here’s one reason why some people avoid wealth – even if on the outside they seem to be looking for it, the secondary gain is getting attention and love from those that help them.

Billy is one such person. He has been poor all his life. He has been a parasite since he was a kid, well trained by his own parents who were also parasites. So he can’t a regular job. He constantly shows up at relatives’ homes because his electricity is being cut off or his landlord is kicking him out of the house. Sound familiar?

Deep within Billy, you’ll find someone who feels loved when other people help him in his need.

To know if you have the Parasite Complex, ask yourself, “Do I subconsciously fear financial independence because it will cause other people not to help me anymore? Do I feel most loved when I receive financial help from other?

Don’t avoid wealth. You must find ways to break-off the self-destructive habit. Read the Bible for inspiration. Let the Holy Spirit guide you. Make Jesus your silent partner in life and experience miracles happen in each moment of your life.

Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life,

to mind your own business and to work with your hands…

Here’s another Giant blocking your entrance to the Promised Land.

Some people have this subconscious belief: “People will think bad of me if I become rich.” Insane? You can’t imagine how many people have this conviction.

If you have this belief, you’ll subconsciously avoid wealth - no matter how you outwardly try to gain it.

For example, I’ve met some lay Christian workers who feel they have to continue to be poor so that people will respect them. Because if they’re not poor, then people might accuse them of using Church funds.

But this is crazy. The truth is, we’re never in control of our reputation – only our integrity.

According to one study made in a prestigious American university, an 18-year-old person knows an average of 263 persons. And the older you get, the more people you know.

That means you have 263 different reputations or more!

Try controlling that.

But you only have one integrity, and that’s what you can control.

If your conscience is clear and God is cheering you, then no matter what other people say, live your life! Don’t stop for every dog that barks on the road.
